This year,
Woodhaven
High School and Patrick
Henry Middle School students
will be picked up and dropped off together for most of the runs. If the route
shows WHS/PHMS, both schools will be together. If the route shows “PHMS
Only,” only Patrick Henry Middle School will be
picked up and dropped off for that route. Also if the route shows “WHS Only,”
only Woodhaven High School students will be picked up and dropped off for that
route.
You can view the Woodhaven-Brownstown School
District Transportation rules
by
clicking here. All building rules apply to bussing. You and your student
are responsible for reading and knowing these rules.
Because of heavy construction in some of the
newer areas, we will have limited access to streets. For safety reasons, our
drivers will not travel through areas tied up by construction vehicles, nor
are they to back up unless absolutely necessary. Please bear with us by
having your children go to the nearest stop on a route that will get them to
their school. It is very important that students do not jump buses to ride
with their friends. Our buses will be able to handle only the students around
the area of their location. If you feel that a change may be necessary after
the first few weeks of school, a request for a change should be made in
writing. The forms will be made available in your child's school or online.

School bus stops are controlled by law in
Michigan.
There are requirements that have to be met for a bus stop to be legal. Some
bus stops have been consolidated to make the adjustments required by these
laws. In order to facilitate the times listed below:
-
Students should arrive at the bus stop at least
10 minutes (the first week) prior to their scheduled pick-up time and 5
minutes following the first week.
- Students should be
dressed in light and/or reflective clothing so they can be seen from a
distance by drivers.
- They should be out
near the roadway waiting “BEFORE” the bus arrives to insure proper pick-up.
- Drivers are not
required to stop and wait for students who are on porches or inside homes
waiting for buses. They must be ready when the bus pulls up to their
stop.
If a stop is not used after the second week of
school, it will be dropped from the route schedule until our office is
contacted to resume service. Students should ride the bus the first day of
school to learn their bus driver’s name, bus route number, bus stop, and bus
safety rules. As in the past, if students must cross a road, they must wait
until the bus is stopped and the driver has checked to make sure traffic is
stopped. The driver will then signal the student, who should also check
traffic for themselves before crossing the road.
We are looking forward to another year of
safely transporting your children, our students, to and from school. We want
you to know their safety is our foremost concern, and we appreciate your
cooperation. Please feel free to call the Support Services Department at
(734) 783-0255 if you have any questions.
