               School of Choice 
The district will be accepting applications for Schools of Choice students for the 2014-15 school year beginning April 28, 2014. There are 25 openings in each grade K-5 and 10 openings in each grade 6-12.

Dental Occupation Students are Inducted
into National Technical Honor Society

Congratulations to the following Woodhaven Dental Occupation students who were recently inducted into the National Technical Honor Society. Pictured (l-r) are Caitlyn Kiernan, Megan Hickey, Omaima Abdulaziz, Ms. Dawn Damron, Kara Quandt, Jacob Knaggs, and Katelyn Shivel. Requirements include a GPA of 3.0 or higher, CTE GPA of 3.3 or higher, membership and participation in CT student organization, community service, an essay of 500 words, two recommendations, and abidance of the member conduct code.

Three ambitious WHS Class of 2013 graduates, Mitchell Girao, Kyle Martin, and Andrew Michel, wanted to capture in a video all that our city and school district have to offer before leaving for college. Great Start Readiness Program
The Great Start Readiness Program (GSRP) will be held at two locations this fall - Yake Elementary School and Erving Elementary School. GSRP is a no cost, state-funded preschool program for income-eligible children who are four years old by November 1, 2013. GSRP is now accepting applications for the 2013-14 school year.

Signature Event

The Woodhaven Brownstown Education Foundation is hard at work planning and preparing for the 2nd annual Signature Event. The Signature Event will be held on Thursday, May 1, 2014 at Arnaldo's Banquet Center in Riverview. We are anticipating a full house and are looking forward to an even bigger and better time this year.

In Memory of Milan Knezovich

The family of Milan Knezovich has requested donations in his honor be made to the Woodhaven-Brownstown Education Foundation (WBEF). The WBEF welcomes and appreciates donations to the Foundation in Memory of Mr. Milan Knezovich, longtime Erving Elementary Principal, who recently passed away.  Please make your check payable to "WBEF" noting "In Memory of Milan Knezovich" and send to Mrs. Bev McGuire, Woodhaven-Brownstown School District, 24821 Hall Road, Woodhaven, MI 48183-3756.

WBEF Mini-Grant Awards
WBEF Grant Award

On behalf of the Woodhaven Brownstown Education Foundation, Superintendent, Mr. Mark Greathead, and Board President, Mrs. Cara Pimer (second from right), had the pleasure of awarding WBEF mini-grants to WBSD teachers just before winter recess. The Foundation Committee selected 15 recipients from over 30 grant applications that were submitted. Ms. Penni Blohm (second from left), a reading interventionist at Erving Elementary School, was awarded $250 for her "Bridging the Gap" project. Ms. Blohm plans to use the funds to purchase books and bags for selected at-risk students to guide them in becoming proficient readers. Also pictured at right is Erving Elementary principal, Mrs. Caterina Berry.
