Letter from State Superintendent Brian Whiston regarding M-STEP

A Message From the Superintendent:
District Water Testing Results
The Woodhaven-Brownstown School District, as a proactive measure, contracted Arch Environmental Group to conduct drinking water tests for lead. AEG tested "first draw" and drinking water samples in all eight of the district's school buildings. We're pleased to report that water from all of the outlets tested well below levels established by the Environmental Protection Agency.
"The safety and well-being of our students and staff has always remained our top priority, so we are obviously pleased with the water resting results," said Superintendent Mark Greathead. "Arch Environmental has informed us that no further action is required and we would like to thank them for the thorough testing of the drinking water in our buildings."

M-STEP Parent Report Video - Now Available
Last fall, the Michigan Department of Education provided schools and districts with an M-STEP Communication Toolkit in preparation for the release of state, district, and building Spring 2015 results. To continue the Department's commitment to support teachers, parents, and students throughout this transition to higher expectations for all students, a newly developed video is now available which summarizes M-STEP and walks viewers through how to read and interpret student scores within the M-STEP Parent Report. Click on the link below to view the M-STEP video.

Kindergarten Enrollment Information
Enrollment age requirements will remain the same for the 2016-17 school year as they were in 2015-16. Beginning with the 2015-16 school year, parents could enroll a child who resided in the school district in kindergarten if the child was at least 5 years of age on September 1 of the school year of enrollment. If a child did not meet the minimum age requirement, but turned 5 years of age not later than December 1 of that school year, the district could enroll the child for that school year if the parent or legal guardian notified the district in writing that he or she intended to enroll the child in kindergarten for that school year.
Kindergarten/Young Five enrollment packets are available in the elementary buildings and at the Administration Offices. We look forward to welcoming our youngest students into the Woodhaven-Brownstown School District for the 2016-17 school year.
